The belief that homosexuality is a “choice” is a frequent and polarizing topic of conversation. If that belief is true and we have free will to decide our sexual orientation, then doesn't it make sense that heterosexuality must also be a choice? In reality, we can no more choose our sexual orientation than we can our, race, ethnicity, or gender. A great deal has been written for, by, and about gay people, addressing their orientation. What seems to be missing is a book that covers a wide range of orientations - personal stories by people who realized they were straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, and how they came to know the truth of who they really are. To fill this gap, we’re asking people from all walks of life and all orientations to contribute their stories. These stories will be archived on the web and the most compelling will be compiled into a book entitled A Few “Choice” Words. In this way we can provide an honest account of what each of us has experienced to document that the “choices” we have in our lives pertain to how we live them, not who we are. |
